TA Matching Overview

Frequently Asked Questions

VPN

An Instructor or User can not access the website

The Campus VPN is required to access the TA Matching website from off campus, or from the UCInet Mobile Access wireless network.

Solution: use the Campus VPN

Manage Grads

A Grad Student does not see the Survey link after logging in

There are three kinds of people that can access the TA Matching website. If a Grad Student can not see the TA Application: Grad Student Application link on the TA Matching website, they are probably not in the Grad Student List. The Grad Student List is the list of all valid UCInetIDs with access to the Grad Student Application.

Solution: Check the Grad Student List and if they are missing, add them manually.

Manage Instructors

An Instructor does not see the Survey link after logging in

There are three kinds of people that can access the TA Matching website. If an Instructor can not see the TA Application: Instructor TA Preferences link on the TA Matching website, they are probably not in the Instructor List. The Instructor List is the list of all valid UCInetIDs with access to the Instructor TA Preferences survey.

Solution: Check the Instructor List and if they are missing, add them manually.

Manually Update Instructor Courses

An Instructor does not see their course in the course list

The Admin area of the TA Matching application connects directly to live registrar data. The Instructor Preferences survey uses data pulled nightly from the registrar, instead of a live connection.

There could be a case where an instructor can not find their course because it was not in the nightly update but has since been added to the live data. In this case an Administrative User can update the Instructor Course data manually.

Solution: Click the Manually Update Instructor Courses link in the admin area of the TA Matching Application.

Server Overload

A user is getting an 'Error 500'

Occasionally a user may get an Error 500 if the web server is out of resources. This rarely happens, but is more likely to occur after the email has just been sent notifying Grad Students that the survey is now open. When a large amount of users go to the website at the same time, there is a chance some of them may experience an Error 500.

We try to provide adequate resources for all available websites, but occasionally a surge of users may be larger than we expect. If the Error 500 becomes a chronic problem, we will attempt to assign more resources if there are any available. In the mean time we ask users to try again after a few hours, or possibly the next day.

Solution: Try again at a later time.
