How do I report spam email?
If you receive an email that you are at all suspicious about, please do not click any links or open any attachments. Instead, forward it to OIT's special spam@uci.edu address for processing using the instructions on this page.
Key points:
- Forward suspicious mail to OIT's spam collection address: spam@uci.edu
- Follow instructions below to forward the message with full headers (also called the full original message) so that it can be blocked.
- The instructions below are adapted from OIT's page here: https://uci.service-now.com/kb_view_customer.do?sysparm_article=KB0010287
UCI Gmail
- Open the suspicious message
- Click the three dots next to Reply near the top-right of the message
- Select Show original
- Copy the entire text and paste it into a new message
- Send it to spam@uci.edu
Outlook
- Select the suspicious message
- In the menu bar click on More just to the right of the Forward button, then select Forward as Attachment
- A new email will open with the original email as an attachment
- Send it to spam@uci.edu
macOS Mail
- In the menu bar click View → Message → Long Headers
- Click on the suspicious message to highlight it, and then click on the Forward button
- Send it to spam@uci.edu
Thunderbird
- In the menu bar click View → Headers → All
- Click on the suspicious message to highlight it, and then click on the Forward button
- Send it to spam@uci.edu
- After forwarding the message with full headers, you can switch back to normal headers by selecting View > Headers > Normal
