Off Campus Access to Your Web Folder

The following discussion assumes you are already familiar what your web folder is, and with accessing your school network account via your office computer. If not, please refer to Setting Up Your Web Site

Your web folder is easy to access from your office computer. However, accessing it from a location off-campus, such as from home, requires different steps.

Getting the Remote Access Program (ftp)

In order to access your web folder from off campus you need to use a secure ftp (sftp) program. We recommend WinSCP. If it is not already on your computer, it can be obtained via the following:

Use your web browser to go to: http://winscp.net/eng/download.php

Click on “installation package” under the heading “WinSCP 3.7.6”

Choose any of the “download” links in the list.

When the download starts save the file to your computer's desktop and double-click the file to install.

Connecting to Your Web Folder

After the WinSCP program has been installed, run WinSCP and connect to the computer: nexus.ss.uci.edu

Enter the user name and password you use on your office computer.

After successfully logging into nexus.ss.uci.edu you should see the files in your web folder. You can now use WinSCP to copy files from your home computer to your web folder, or vice versa.
