How to disable loading images in email by default
Email clients can be configured to not load or display images by default when an email message is first opened. This can be a useful feature as both a security measure (to prevent loading malicious content), and as a way to prevent the sender from tracking you or knowing if you have opened the message.
This needs to be configured separately on each email client or program that you use to read your email.
Outlook Web Access
- Go to https://outlook.com/uci.edu and log in with your UCI M365 account
- Click on the gear icon in the top-right corner to open settings:
- Go to Mail → Layout → Scroll down to find “Sender Images”
- Click on “Don't show sender images”
Gmail
- Go to https://gmail.com and log in with your UCInetID
- Click on the gear icon in the top-right corner, and click “See all settings” to open settings:
- Under General settings, scroll down to find “Images”
- Click on “Ask before displaying external images”
