How do I unsubscribe from an email list?

Many of our email lists are designed to be complete lists for official school business, so all current members are expected to remain subscribed. In those cases, you cannot unsubscribe.

But you are able to unsubscribe from the following lists (will be updated to include new lists as they become available):

• faculty-announcements@socsci.uci.edu

You can always email sscs@uci.edu to request being unsubscribed and we will be happy to process that for you. But if you want to try to do it yourself, you can find instructions below.

You can unsubscribe from a list by going to the list's info page on our mailman server:

1. Click the link for the appropriate list info page above
2. Scroll down to the Subscriber section, enter your email address (note that it must match exactly to the address that is subscribed), then click the “Unsubscribe or edit options” button:

3. On the next page, scroll down to find the “Unsubscribe” button and click that:

4. You'll receive an email with a link that you can click to unsubscribe, or you can simply “reply” to that email and it will send an email back to the system that confirms and processes the unsubscribe request.

If you are using UCI's Google Workspace for Education, you will be able to find an Unsubscribe link at the bottom of all messages sent to the list:

1. The footer is sometimes hidden, so you may have to click the 3-dot symbol at the bottom of the message to show the footer.
2. You can then click on the Unsubscribe link at the bottom
3. This will open a new browser window and show a confirmation message when the unsubscribe action is complete. You can then close the browser.

If you are using UCI's Outlook email system, unfortunately the message footer with the unsubscribe link is converted to a text file attachment.

1. Unfortunately, the message footer is saved as an attachment in Outlook. Click on the ATT00001.txt attachment file to open it.

2. The unsubscribe link is displayed as plain text, not as a clickable link. You will need to drag to select the text, and then copy the text.

3. Open a new web browser window and paste the link into the address bar, then hit Enter on the keyboard to go to the link.
4. You will see a confirmation message when the unsubscribe action is complete. You can then close the browser.
