====== Print to Canon Copier from Linux ====== You will need to be comfortable running sudo commands in Terminal. If you are not comfortable making changes to your system, please call the Helpdesk at 949-824-5476 or send an email to [[mailto:sscs@uci.edu|sscs@uci.edu]] === Install Driver === - Download the CodeHost BrightQ installer [[http://socsci.uci.edu/~hyen/Canon/canon-brightq-2.5.10-linux-2020-02-20.run|here]] - Open Terminal and navigate to the installer. - Make the file executable chmod 700 ./canon-brightq-2.5.10-linux-2020-02-20.run - Run the file sudo ./canon-brightq-2.5.10-linux-2020-02-20.run - Click thru the installer, default settings - The CodeHost Registration page opens after installation. You can register for free, or skip and be asked again in 30 days. - Once you finish, the CodeHost BrightQ should pop up and you can add a printer ===== Configure Printer === - If you need to pull up the CodeHost BrightQ config utility, run from Terminal sudo codehost-config - Check [[https://wiki.socsci.uci.edu/helpdesk/doku.php?id=canon|here]] for IP address - Click the green **+** printer button - Choose "**A remote printer using a network protocol**" - Click on the "**Discover network printers**" button on the bottom-left corner: - {{howto:sscs:canon-linux-1.png?400|}} - Type the IP of the Canon in the "**Host or IP address**" box, then click "Start Discovery" - **Expand** the discovered IP, click the line that shows an LPD port, and click **Select Printer** - The driver should autoselect the model, if not, press Previous and try again or select the model manually out of the drop down menu, then press Next - Under **Queue Name**, change the name to something meaningful e.g. canonCogSci (cannot contain spaces or special characters) - Press OK to close the add printer dialog ===== Input copy code === - If you need to pull up the CodeHost BrightQ config utility, run from Terminal sudo codehost-config - Highlight the copier - Click on the Properties tab (might help to maximize this window) - Under User ID, type in your copy code and press Apply - {{howto:sscs:canon-linux-2.png?400|}} - If you can't type in the User ID field, try pressing Factory Device Defaults, closing all related windows, and entering your copy code again.
