====== How to change my SS2K password ======

Your SS2K account is used to log in to network resources on the Social Sciences domain. These resources could include:

  * Windows computer in your office/lab
  * Shared folders or mapped network drives
  * SFTP server nexus.socsci.uci.edu
  * other servers or services hosted by SSCS

===== Changing your password: method 1 =====

If you use a Windows desktop computer in your office or lab and it is joined to the SS2K domain, you can press **Ctrl-Alt-Del** and click "Change a Password" from the menu.

===== Changing your password: method 2 =====

You can use your web browser to log in to one of our shared folder storage servers and change your password there:

  - Go to [[https://ironman.ss.uci.edu]]
    - Note: you have to log in to the [[https://oit.uci.edu/help/vpn|campus VPN]] first if you are off-campus
  - Login with your SS2K user account
  - Click the profile button {{:howto:synology-profile-button.png?25|}} in the top-right corner
  - Click the "**Personal**" menu option
  - Enter your old password followed by a new password, and confirm your new password
    * You can use the password strength meter as a guide, but the only requirement we have is that your new password is at least 10 characters long

  * **NOTE**: Please do not change any other settings in this menu or elsewhere on the ironman server.
===== Changing your password: method 3 =====

You may log in to the server nexus.socsci.uci.edu using an SSH client and change your password there. This method also requires a [[https://oit.uci.edu/help/vpn|VPN connection]] to the campus network if you are off-campus.

=== From a Windows computer ===

  - Download an SSH client, such as [[http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html|PuTTY]]
  - Connect to the server name "''nexus.socsci.uci.edu''"
  - Login with your current username/password
  - If this is your first login, you may be prompted to change your password, otherwise type **''passwd''** and press Enter; follow the prompts to change your password.
  - Type **''exit''** and press Enter to quit

=== From a Mac ===

  - Open the Terminal, in /Applications/Utilities/
  - Type ''ssh USERNAME@nexus.socsci.uci.edu'' and press Enter
  - Type your current password when prompted
  - If this is your first login, you may be prompted to change your password, otherwise type **''passwd''** and press Enter; follow the prompts to change your password
  - Type **''exit''** and press Enter to quit the SSH session

===== If you have forgotten your password =====

Please email SocSci & SocEco IT Support at [[mailto:socit@uci.edu|SocIT@uci.edu]] and request that we reset your password. When you send this email, make sure it comes from your official @uci.edu email account so that we can verify your identity.
